According to a study in Hong Kong at The Chinese University, one in five people who have had Covid-19 experience at least one symptom related to dry eye disease such as blurred vision or itching.
The research consisted of Covid-19 patients between one to three months after their diagnosis in 2020 and compared them with 109 healthy participants who had not been infected.
The results from the trial show that the patients who had previously been infected Covid-19, at least 21% were at a higher risk of developing symptoms relating to dry eye disease having at least one indicator associated with the condition.
Researchers will continue to study the link between dry eye and COVID-19 however, it seems at this moment that vaccination remains the most effective measure in preventing post-COVID – 19.
